Pollyanna Bean Johnson

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Pollyanna Bean Johnson on August 20, 2024. Born July 29, 1944 in Hanover, NH, she was daughter to Milton A. and Madeleine (Lord) Bean. Polly was educated at Norwich and Hanover schools and Johnson State College.

She worked in retail management at the Town & Country Shop, the Lake Morey Pro Shop, and Shopping International. She worked with her father for many years at Rooftop Gardens and then Duke’s. Polly opened Bean’s Art Store in 1982 and operated it through 2005, when her daughter Heather succeeded her.

Enjoying horseback riding from age six, Polly competed in trail and endurance riding from 1978 to 2008. She belonged to VCTRA and ECTRA, competing in 100 mile rides in several States. She completed 10 GMHA 3-day 100 mile rides and several 100-mile 1 day endurance rides, as well as countless other opportunities within the equestrian community.

Polly was devoted to family, her parents, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchild and many treasured friends. She loved gardening, all animals especially dogs and horses. She loved wildlife, water, swimming, travel, making pottery, cooking for people, working, golf, and long walks while taking in nature.
