Robert Arthur Reid, 90, died peacefully in Lebanon, New Hampshire on June 30, 2010.
Born in Montreal to George Reid and Janet Bell in 1920, Bob Reid (B. Eng. McGill, 1942) served with the R.C.E.M.E. Corps 1942-45. Bob then began his 46-year career with Dominion Bridge in Montreal; subsequently his career included appointment as Winnipeg Plant Manager (1955), Manager of Manufacturing in Lachine, Quebec (1959), and Vice-President of AMCA International in Hanover, New Hampshire (1973).
He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Roseborough Reid and children Margaret Stacey (Greg) of Nelson, British Columbia, Robert Reid (Joanna) of London, Ontario, and Marilyn Ibey of San Antonio, Texas, brother William Reid (Joan) of Montreal, aunt Christina Goodwin of Ottawa, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Bob loved sports, camping and Boy Scouts in his early years. Throughout his life, he especially enjoyed golf at Kanawaki and Quechee golf clubs, gardening, skiing, carpentry and photography, as well as wintering in Victoria BC after his retirement. Bob was a philatelist and bridge player up to his death. His dedication to family and friends, to community service, and to his calling as an engineer will always be remembered. Friends have described Bob as “always the gentleman”.
A memorial service is to be arranged in New Hampshire and interment in Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.
