Donald William Hawthorne, 73 passed away on February 12, 2010 at
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH with his wife and three
daughters by his side. He was born to James K. Hawthorne & Helen Bond on May
29, 1936 in Norwich, VT.
Don graduated from Hanover High school with the class of 1955 where he was a
standout athlete
in many sports. He continued to follow and support local sports teams
throughout his life.
He met his wife of 51 years, Elaine, while they both attended Keene
Teacher's College.
After graduation, he taught at Exeter High School. Then on to Hanover
High School where he taught shop and audio visual to many youth whom he
formed lasting bonds with.
From 1973 to 1993 he owned and operated
Hanover Auto Service on Park Street in Hanover.
Don served as a Selectman for the Town of Hanover. He was a long time
trustee for the
Hanover Center Congregational Church.
Don's love of fishing drew him to be a 30 year member of the Norford Lake
Fishing Club. While a member he served on the Board of Directors and
recently as Farm Manager.
One of his favorite pastimes was fishing and
boating in Pittsburg, NH with his wife and family. Don had a special knack
of making friends wherever he went. His good humor and quick wit drew many
people into his family.
He is survived by his wife Elaine, three daughters, Kim Toland, Dina Cutting
and husband Frank,
Marci O'Keefe and husband Shaun, four grandchildren, Cole Cutting, Torey
Cutting,
Kaleb O'Keefe and Jordan Toland, 3 great grand children, two brothers,
Ronald Hawthorne & William Relation, a sister, Sara Koury and many nieces,
nephews and cousins. Don was predeceased by his parents James Hawthorne and
Helen Bond, his stepmother Wilma Hawthorne and a stepbrother Gary Davis.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 1:00PM at
Hanover Center Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made in memory of
Donald Hawthorne to:
