Nancy L. Elliott of Kendal at Hanover passed away peacefully on September 28, 2010. Nancy was the daughter of the late James and Freida (Husson) Elliott. She was born on December 15, 1924, in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her childhood was spent in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, where she attended public schools and graduated from Lasell Junior College High School. She also attended Syracuse University and the New York School of Interior Design.

After living and working in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and New York City, Nancy returned to New England where she built a home in Waterville Valley. Her family and friends have wonderful memories of the crazy and fun times spent at “the ski house.”

Nancy served as the Director of Alumni Records and Special Alumni Services at Dartmouth College for 25 years before retiring in 1987. She was famous for her love of the school and its alumni and students, as evidenced by her willingness to care for pets and plants when needed. Many of her former co-workers maintained a close relationship with Nancy to this day. Her family members always knew that a visit to Nancy would include a Dartmouth athletic event, especially hockey and football.

During retirement Nancy volunteered as a full time job. She could be seen on a regular basis at the Pink Smock at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where she knitted countless items for teddy bears in the gift shop. She was also an enthusiastic volunteer at the Montshire Museum. She loved animals and spent many years pet sitting for others after the loss of her adored terrier, Cassie.

Nancy was a world traveler and avid photographer. Her photographs are stunning and have been enjoyed by many people in many different places over the years. She was an avid gardener and took great pleasure in having beautiful and unusual plants and flowers around her.

Nancy is survived by her sisters, Joanne Pillsbury of Camden, Maine, and Martha Elliott of Southborough, Massachusetts; her nephew, James E. Pillsbury, his wife, Marcy, and sons Charlie, Elliott, and James of Gales Ferry, Connecticut; and her niece, Susan Small, her husband, David, and son, Adam, of Acton, Maine.
