Hanover, NH Joanne M. Burnham, 83, longtime resident of Hanover, NH, died March 4, 2010. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Alden H. "Whitey" Burnham.
Joanne and Whitey traveled the world, were avid bridge players, and were involved in many athletic and development projects for Dartmouth College, Springfield College, and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she touched many lives. Her professional career was that of a skilled executive secretary, working for a private psychiatrist, principals of Hanover High School, and the law firm of Stebbins & Bradley. Joanne contributed many hours as a volunteer for the Pink Smock Shop at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, and served as a member of The Assembly of Overseers of DHMC. She actively participated in the Hanover Garden Club, the Goose Pond Lake Association and the "Sporty-Niners" golf group.
Joanne was born and raised in Springfield, MA, and attended American International College before her marriage to Whitey in 1945. She is survived by her two children, a daughter, Janice Burnham, of Charlottesville, VA, and her husband, Steve Cooper; a son, Fred Burnham, of Concord, MA, and his wife, Mary Sterling, and two granddaughters, Abigail and Madeline Burnham of Concord, MA. She is survived also by her sister, Laurel Jonah, of Springfield, MA.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Church of Christ at Dartmouth College on May 22. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
