Roger was a good and popular chemistry professor, but he was also a kind, gentle, and generous soul. I worked with him for several years, helping underprepared Dartmouth students do well enough in general chemistry so that they could go on to take the pre-health courses and apply to med school. He worked hard to understand their deficits and to support their learning. He was the ideal first year science teacher at a rigorous, competitive Ivy League college. I was so impressed by his dedication. And after he retired, he always greeted me with a smile as he made his way across campus.
