August 6, 2017

Theodore William "Ted" Checani, 84, died at his daughter’s home, surrounded by his family. Ted was formerly of New Orleans, LA and most recently Ipswich, MA. Ted was born in Natick MA, Sept. 30th, 1932. As a young adult, he spent his time working at the family owned Kentucky Package Store in downtown Natick.

Son of Kocho and Evanthia (Kreshpani) Checani.

Ted graduated from Boston University with a business degree in 1954 and began his career in Boston working for Texaco as a credit analyst, moved to Palm Beach, FL as a credit manager for International Semiconductor, and eventually spent the last 18 years of his career working as Director of Corporate Credit for McDermott International, living in New Orleans, LA.

Upon retirement Ted and his wife Mary moved back to New England to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Ted is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Catherine (Horne) Checani of Ipswich MA., his three children Cheryl (Checani) Frisch, and her husband Bob of Hanover, NH, Craig Checani and his wife Susan (Young) Checani of Amherst, NH and Robin (Checani) Gales and her husband John of South Burlington, VT. His brother Robert Checani and wife Dolores of Natick, MA. Sister in law, Carmen Checani and Eiko Checani along with many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Helen T. (Checani) Evangelos, and his brothers: Charles and Richard Checani.

Ted was a true history aficionado and loved spending time in Kennebunkport and Ogunquit ME. You’ll also be tough to find a bigger fan of the New England Patriots than Ted, even in the tough years. His dedication to the team never wavered. His incredible recall resulted in him becoming the unofficial family historian, backed with a biting sense of humor that always had his family smiling. His love for his family, his beloved Pats, his wife Mary were examples for all of us to follow.

There are no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held on August 23rd, 11:30 am, at Rand-Wilson Funeral Home, 11 ½ School Street, Hanover NH. Luncheon at the Hanover Inn immediately following.
