Paul Joseph Fredyma, of Contoocook, NH and previously of Hanover, NH, passed away with family members at his side on Friday, February 10, 2017 after a short illness at Valley Terrace Assisted Living, White River Junction, VT.

Paul Joseph Fredyma was born January 9, 1922 in Suncook (Pembroke), NH, to Thomas E. and Nora (Shenkowsky) Fredyma.  Paul graduated from Epping High School and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) before attending the University of New Hampshire in 1941.  He was drafted into the United States Army and was attached to the 301st Infantry, 94th Division, 3rd Army, as an expert marksman.

Paul served in combat during the Northern France and Rhineland campaign before being taken prisoner in March 1945, in Zerf, Germany.  For his service Paul was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Ribbon, Europe-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 2 Service Stars, and Combat Infantry Badge. Paul was honorably discharged from the Army in July of 1945.  Paul graduated from Dartmouth College in 1948 and married Marie-Louise Friedman in 1949.

Paul initially resided in Hartford, VT with his wife and children where he worked as a high school science teacher.  In 1957 he moved his family to Hanover, NH, where he resided for most of his life.  He worked with his wife in her antique business, Marie-Louise Antiques, until 2010. Paul and Marie were early researchers of antique silversmiths and published seven books on New England silversmiths, clock and watchmakers. He was a cabinet maker and craftsman. He was also active in real estate and land development for over 50 years.

Paul and Marie-Louise were married for 60 years until her death in 2010.  He is survived by his son James (Judith) of Contoocook, NH; his daughter Jane Raymond (James – predeceased in 1986) of New Port Richey, FL; his son John (Diana) of Cape Coral, FL; and his son Jack (Julia) of Dover, NH.  Grandchildren include Christian Nardi of Hopkinton, NH, Jessica Fredyma-Cox of Hopkinton, NH, Molly Fredyma of Hopkinton, NH, Lindy (Fredyma) Gonzalez of Cape Coral, FL, Lori (Fredyma) Crouse of Cape Coral, FL, Christina Raymond of New Port Richey, FL, Tracey Fierro of New Port Richey, FL, CPO Timothy Raymond, USN, of Guam, and Christopher Raymond of Tampa, FL.  Great grandchildren include Emma Fredyma of Hopkinton, NH and others in Florida and Guam.

Mr. Fredyma is also survived by his sister Helen Sabean of Concord, NH, and sister-in-law Lorraine (Emond) Fredyma of Pembroke, NH. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fredyma was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of Valley Terrace Assisted Living, White River Junction, VT for the care provided to him during his recent illness.

A private service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Rand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hanover, NH, is in charge of arrangements.
