We were deeply saddened to learn of Carl's passing. We are particularly sorry that we cannot be there to attend the funeral. Carl was a very effective Dean of Thayer School, a wonderful mentor for young faculty members, and a great friend. He will be greatly missed. Our sincere sympathy to Joanna, Carl Jr. and Barbara.

Dean Long was inspirational and practical. He instilled in me the importance of quality work and the tremendous community value engineers can bring to society through their work and leadership.

Dear Long Family,
My condolences on the passing of Carl. He was a wonderful teacher, a great presence as Dean, and a friend I was proud to know. I carry with me many, many lessons and jewels of wisdom he shared with his students. They are timeless; I'm trying to pass them on as he did. I feel truly privileged to be able to say Carl Long was my teacher. He will be truly missed.
Our prayers are with your family for the Lord's peace and comfort.
Sincerely,
John and Barbara Currier (Norwich, VT)

Dear Long family,
We are very sad that Carl has passed away and will always remember him as the calm, pragmatic, and capable Dean and colleague he was. His kind and generous disposition will continue to serve as guide for us. Please accept our condolences.

Dear Long Family,
I was saddened to hear of Carl's death. Carl was one of my favorite professors at Thayer. He was an inspiring teacher, mentor and friend. He kindled my interest in Civil Engineering which I went on to study at MIT. There are few professors who have a lasting indelible influence on one's future and Carl was up there on the list.
Michel Zaleski (New York, NY)

Carl was a tremendous asset to the Hanover Water Works Co while he served as president. His knowledge and passion was an asset to the company and all who worked with him. He was a wonderful man and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to work with him.
