William J. Leonard
April 6, 2010

William J. Leonard, of Quail Hollow in West Lebanon, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the age of 92 after a brief illness. He was born in Yonkers, NY, on October 30, 1917, and completed his education there. He pursued a career in retailing in the Hartford, Conn. Area and spent much of his retirement in Bridgton, Maine and Scottsville, NY.

Bill exuded Irish charm and had a wonderful sense of humor that put people at ease. He was an excellent bridge player and a smooth dancer, and he enjoyed golf, cross-country skiing, and working on his woodpile. In retirement, he was active in community affairs. Many elected officials could attest to his interest in politics and his penchant for writing letters. He shared many marvelous travel adventures with his wife of 72 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Stiles Leonard; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Donald Hansley of Islamorada, Fla.; and his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Fowler of Hanover, NH.

“Grampy” provided unconditional love and support to his four grandchildren, Wendy, Julie, Shay and Chris, and delighted in their company. He continued that role with his eight great Grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.

A brief memorial was held in Rollins Chapel on the Dartmouth College campus at 11:00 AM on Sunday. April 11, 2010. Interment will take place at a later date in Westfield, Mass.
