Ellen Rider Gluek – Died peacefully, in her 87 th year in Hanover, New Hampshire on Monday, February 15, 2010. She was the dearly beloved wife of the late Professor Alvin C. Gluek, Jr., loving mother and mother-in-law of Caroline and Tom Chipley of Mt. Jackson, Virginia, Elisebeth and Clyde Holt of Raleigh, North Caroline, Chuck and Laura Gluek of Toronto, and Martha Evancich and Bob Hodge of Sudbury, Massachusetts, dear sister and sister-in-law of Stuart and Georgiana Rider, Minnesota, and cherished grandmother of 8 and great-grandmother of 5.
Ellen was remarkable: She was invariably kind, decent, and gracious. She was consistently loyal, she always encouraged, and she never stopped loving her husband and her family. She was essential to them. She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. To her, her late husband repeatedly wrote---“you are, to me, everything”. He thought himself very fortunate to have married her. She loved unconditionally her children, and she did not tire of helping, caring for and supporting them. She was, to them, everything. They are very grateful she was their mother. She was involved as well in her community with the Colonial Dames, R.O.N.D.O., The Women's Altar Guild of the Episcopalian Church, co-chair of the Decorating Committee at Kendal, vice-president of its Residence Council, and with the Upper Valley Baby Wellness Clinic. She donated to numerous charities. And, she loved the Red Sox.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 2 p.m. at Kendal, Hanover, New Hampshire. Interment will be held at a later date in Orford, New Hampshire. For further information contact Rand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hanover, New Hampshire 603-643-2552.
