Mary Eleanor Flynn, 93, of Hanover passed away on May 12, 2010 after a long illness. Eleanor was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James A. Flynn and grew up in the District of Columbia.
She graduated in 1938 from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. with a major in French and spent several semesters studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. Eleanor taught French at several schools in Washington and was an employee of the League of Nations and the Pan American Union in the District. In 1946 she married Thomas J. Flynn Jr. of Upper Montclair, New Jersey, her husband of 64 years. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her husband, Thomas and son, Thomas J. Flynn III of Plainfield, New Hampshire.
In later years she enjoyed volunteer activities in her community.
She will be greatly missed by her husband and son. Eleanor was predeceased by her three siblings Bernard Flynn of Washington, D.C., Mary Louise Flynn of Union, New Jersey and Robert Peyton Flynn of Annandale, Virginia. In addition to her husband, she leaves her son Thomas and his wife Kristine of Plainfield, New Hampshire. Eleanor will be greatly missed by her many friends in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Florida.
The family will be holding a wake at the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover from 6PM to 8PM on May 13, 2010. There will be a Funeral Mass at St, Denis Roman Catholic Church at 11AM on Friday May 14, 2010.
