My wife, Susan, and I were privileged to know Dr. Ashmun during his time in Dayton, Ohio. We have lived in the Upper Valley since 2003 and were sad to know that Dr. Ashmun was nearby and we did not know that. At the time we met, Dr. Ashmun had collected and restored a four faced tower clock. I was working at Wittenberg University at the time (1977) and we arranged to acquire the restored clock for installation in a building erected in 1884 that was built for a clock which was not installed due to lack of funding. We shared time at the Ashmun residence where Dr. Ashmun shared his collection of scrimshaw. Susan and I extend our sympathy to Mrs. Ashmun whom we met briefly then. We have shared the news of Dr. Ashmun's death with Walter Keyes, M.D. in Dayton, a neighbor on Big Hill Road. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ashmun family.

Lee was a great help to us in the Pediatric outpatient as we were trying to educate medical students and young physicians. we appreciated his experience and support.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Ashmun. We all send our sincere sympathy to Jean and family. We know it is a great loss to you. We will all remember him as the best Dr. and friend. He was such a caring person. He always had a joke to tell me, just to get me to laugh.

Dr. Ashmun was my pediatrician in Dayton. Mom just told me of his death because I've now got a house in Hanover (I'm a Dartmouth '77 and live in London). My childhood memories of going to the doctor are his white coat and bow tie - and the stethoscope was cold! There were a fish tank and children's books and the smell of rubbing alcohol. Years later, one of my friends told me Dr. Ashmun drove a really nice car, but this was not something a girl would have noticed! I'm sure that Dr. Ashmun's matter-of-fact manner meant that I was never frightened of doctors, even when I had cancer treatment years later. Thanks for taking such good care of me and my three siblings.

We knew Dr. Ashmun as our chidren's Doctor and as a friend. I, David, was a young Presbyterian pastor in Dayton. Our first child was born with a congenital disease, which we didn't know about and we came to rely on and cherish Dr. Ashmun. We have lost contact with Jean and Lee in the last 30 years, yet we have thought of them often. Blessings and gratitude and peace to all of his family.
